External Support Organizations
In addition to our services, numerous organisations offer specialised support. Here are some you might find helpful:
- Cruse Bereavement Support: The UK’s largest bereavement charity, providing free care and bereavement counselling to people suffering from grief. They offer face-to-face, group, telephone, email, and website support.
- Child Bereavement UK: Supports families and educates professionals when a baby or child dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement. They offer a range of support services for young people, couples, and families dealing with loss.
- Winston’s Wish: A childhood bereavement charity offering practical support and guidance to bereaved children, their families, and professionals. They provide professional therapeutic help in individual, group, and residential settings, and via a national helpline.
- The Compassionate Friends: A peer support group formed by and for parents whose children have died, irrespective of the child’s age at death and the cause of death. They offer a national helpline, local and national meetings, and information services.
- Sue Ryder: A British palliative, neurological, and bereavement support charity providing care and support for people living with terminal illnesses and neurological conditions, as well as individuals coping with bereavement. They offer palliative care and support from their specialist centres and in people’s homes.
- Samaritans: Provides emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. They offer a 24/7 helpline for those needing immediate assistance.
- Widowed and Young (WAY): A UK charity that offers peer-to-peer support to young widowed men and women aged 50 or under when their partner died. They provide a supportive community for those who have lost a partner at a young age.
- Bereavement Support Payment: A UK government benefit that you may be able to claim if your husband, wife, or civil partner died in the last 21 months. It’s not means-tested and can provide financial support during a difficult time.
- The Child and Adolescent Bereavement Service (CABS) at Northampton General Hospital provides countywide support for grieving children and adolescents in Northamptonshire through individual and group counselling, also supporting their families, schools, and professionals.
